The Philadelphia Flyers today announced the club has signed defenseman Nick Seeler to a four-year, $10.8 million contract extension ($2.7 million AAV) starting with the 2024-25 season, according to General Manager Daniel Briere.
Seeler, 30 (6/3/93), owns 12 points (1-11=12), 78 penalty minutes, three shorthanded points, 184 blocked shots, 112 hits and a plus-15 rating in 63 games this season. The 6-foot-3, 197-pound native of Eden Prairie, Minn., leads the NHL in blocked shots and ranks T-1st on the Flyers in plus/minus rating, third in PIM and fourth in hits. He set career highs in assists, PIM, shorthanded assists and shorthanded points this season. The left-shot blueliner tallied a career-high eight blocked shots on Jan. 15 at STL, set a career-high eight hits on Dec.19 at NJD and registered a career-high three-game assist streak from Nov.11-18.
Seeler has 41 points (8-33=41), 263 PIM and a plus-11 rating in 288 career NHL games in parts of six NHL seasons with Minnesota, Chicago and Philadelphia (2017-20, 2021-24). He was nominated by Philadelphia’s chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) for the 2022-23 Bill Masterton Trophy, which is given to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.
Seeler signed with Philadelphia as a free agent on July 28, 2021 and signed a two-year contract extension on May 19, 2022. He was originally selected by Minnesota in the fifth round (131st overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft and made his NHL debut with the Wild on Feb. 13, 2018 vs. NYR.
