The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Ryan Poehling to a one-year, $1.4 million contract, according to General Manager Daniel Briere.

Poehling, 24 (1/3/99), recorded 14 points (7-7=14) in 53 games with the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2022-23 season. The 6-foot-2, 196-pound native of Lakeville, Minn., led the Penguins in shorthanded points (3) and ranked T-1st in shorthanded goals (2). The left-shot forward was originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round (25th overall) of the 2017 NHL Draft and made his NHL debut on April 6, 2019 vs. Toronto. He netted his first career hat trick in his NHL debut to become the first Canadiens player to score three goals in his first NHL game since Alex Smart on Jan. 14, 1943. Poehling owns 36 points (20-16=36) in 138 career NHL games in parts of four seasons with Montreal (2018-20, 2021-22) and Pittsburgh (2022-23).

Poehling collected 44 points (19-25=44) in 71 career matches with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League (AHL). He set career highs during the 2020-21 season in goals (11), assists (14), points (25), power-play goals (3) and game-winning goals (4).

Poehling skated in three seasons with St. Cloud State University (2016-19) of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and posted 75 points (29-46=75) and 76 PIM in 107 career games. He was named to the NCHC First All-Star Team in 2018-19.

Internationally, Poehling has represented the United States at the 2017 World Juniors U18 Championship (gold), at the 2018 World Junior U20 Championship (bronze) and at the 2019 World Junior U20 Championship (silver). He picked up three accolades at the 2019 World Junior Championship being named to the All-Star Team, Best Forward and Most Valuable Player.
