Thursday’s game was one of those where the Flyers’ performance was better than the final score showed. Here’s some of the things that go into that.

Owen Tippett continues to generate offense even when he probably shouldn’t be able to. Much like Tuesday’s game in San Jose, here he’s able to get off a pretty forceful shot despite being in a suboptimal position, which this time is while falling to his knees.

Here’s a situation where the Flyers nearly found themselves in a bad spot during a change. At the start of this clip, Cam York is in the left circle of the offensive zone. By the end of it, he’s closed all the way down on Brett Howden to nullify what was nearly a breakaway, slowing Howden up before Bobby Brink arrives to assist and Morgan Frost takes out the trailer.

Howden gets taken care of again in the final 10 seconds of the period, this time by Travis Sanheim, who’s able to prevent Howden from even getting a sniff of what looked like it was going to be a dangerous 2-on-1 as time wound down.

Our last look goes to Jamie Drysdale, who jumps into this play as he sees an opportunity to take a pass from Travis Konecny at the back door. The puck is deflected away, and three Golden Knights are ahead of Drysdale on the breakout the other way. But Drysdale gets on the gas immediately; he almost catches the first puck carrier, but then proceeds to rapidly get back in the passing lane on the remaining 2-on-1 and snuff it out. He even did so in a manner that almost sprung the Flyers the other way.
