"On a personal note, I couldn't be more honored and humbled to have an opportunity to coach you," new Flyers head coach John Tortorella said to his assembled players in team meeting on the first day training camp.

"I mentioned this with Chuck Fletcher] during the interview: the [bleeping] Philadelphia Flyers! ... We've got to get back on the rail, let's face it. We've got some [stuff] to do. I can't wait to work with you."

Broadcast on the
Flyers' official YouTube channel
, the new four-part docuseries called "The Standard" takes a behind the scenes look at Tortorella's first training camp at the helm of the team. It also picks up where "Beyond the Glass" left off in terms of profiling notable players who are trying to make a positive impression on their head coach and the organization. Profiled players include 23-year-old center Morgan Frost and 20-year-old prospect Tyson Foerster.
During the offseason, Tortorella sent a letter to every player, telling them that training camp would be very taxing from a skating and conditioning standpoint. It would start with a skating test on the first day of on-ice work and would also incorporate conditioning skates as a regular element of practice days at camp.
Episode 1 of "The Standard" takes viewers along for Tortorella's orientation meeting with the players. It shows the skating test, which consisted of 15 minutes of skating laps followed by the dreaded goal-line to goal line sprints colloquially known for generations as "suicides". Players are also shown doing dryland training at the Flyers Training Center as well as discussing their goals for camp and the upcoming season.
