DeAngelo, 26 (10/24/1995), appeared in his first and only season with the Hurricanes in 2021-22 and posted 51 points (10g-41a) in 64 regular season games. He led the Hurricanes defense in all three offensive categories - goals, assists and points - and ranked second on the team with a plus-minus rating of +30.
His 41 assists last season were new career high and he also established a new career-high of points per-game (.80) as well as average ice-time at nearly 20 minutes per-game (19:49).
A native of Sewell, New Jersey, DeAngelo has played parts of six seasons in the NHL where he has recorded 34 goals and 123 assists for 157 points in 270 career regular season games with the Arizona Coyotes (2016-17), New York Rangers (2017-20) and Hurricanes (2021-22).
The 5-11, 180-pound defenseman recorded his best season two years ago with the Rangers in 2019-20 when he posted 15 goals and 53 points, both of which led the Rangers defense and ranked tied for fourth among NHL defensemen.
He also spent parts of three season in the American Hockey League with the Syracuse Crunch (2015-16), Tucson Roadrunners (2016-17) and Hartford Wolf Pack (2017-18) and recorded 72 points (11g-61a) in 123 games.
He was originally selected in the First Round (19th overall) by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft held in Philadelphia. DeAngelo has several ties to youth hockey in the Philadelphia area. He was a member of the 2007-08 Flyers Quebec International Pee Wee Team.
He has represented the United States at both the 2015 World Junior Championships, recording three points (2g-1a) in five games, and Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup.
Prior to turning pro, DeAngelo spent four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sarnia Sting (2011-15) and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (2014-15) where he recorded 241 points (55g-186a) in 236 games. In 2013-14 he led all OHL defensemen in assists (56) and points (71). The following season, in 2014-15, he led all OHL defensemen in goals (25), assists (64) and points (89) while being named the OHL Most Outstanding Defenseman and CHL Defenseman of the Year.
