OUR MISSION

NHL Foundation U.S., Inc. ("NHL Foundation U.S.") and the NHL Foundation (together, the “NHL Foundations”) seek to build and promote healthy and vibrant communities through the game of hockey.

By doing so, the NHL Foundations aim to make a positive social impact and foster environments that are more diverse, inclusive, safe, and welcoming, where hockey can play a vital role.

NHL Foundation U.S. Reimagined

In 2023, the NHL Foundation U.S. Board of Directors convened on October 18 and greenlit the foundation's new direction. The foundation, formerly known as the National Hockey League Foundation, will now operate under the name NHL Foundation U.S. Its primary objective is to foster more inclusive and welcoming communities, aiming for the most significant social impact. The foundation's focus will revolve around four core areas: Youth Development, Health and Well-being, Social Equity, and Pathway to Hockey. In 2024, the NHL Foundation U.S. added service as its fifth pillar to support programs for military members, veterans and their families.

The current NHL Foundation U.S. Board is comprised of the following Directors: NHL Deputy Commissioner, Bill Daly; NHL Senior Executive Vice President of SGL, Kim Davis; NHL Chief Financial Officer, Joseph DeSousa; NHL Vice President of SGL, Jeff Scott; NHL Chief Legal Officer, David Zimmerman; NHL Vice President of SGL, Rachel Segal; and, as an outside Director, Corey Blay, former head of Manhattan Country School. The current Officers of NHL Foundation U.S. are: Bill Daly as Chair; Kim Davis as President; Joseph DeSousa as Treasurer; and Jeff Scott as Secretary.

A Message from the Board Chair

We are thrilled to present the new mission and strategy of NHL Foundation U.S.

NHL Foundation U.S. was originally established with the mission of promoting and advancing growth in communities where we live and work. Over the years, we have made significant strides in advancing our cause, but also recognize that there is much more work to be done. To that end, we are committing to a more strategic and targeted approach to our efforts. We will be focusing on initiatives that address the social emotional development of young people, promote emotional well-being, advocate for social equity, and prepare those who have historically been underrepresented for future careers both in the hockey community specifically, and in the sports industry more generally.

To achieve this, we seek to partner with a diverse group of stakeholders, including nonprofits, community organizations, and academic institutions. We will also be engaging with experts in the fields of social emotional learning, mental healthcare, and civic organizations to ensure that our initiatives are grounded in research, documentation, and best practices.

We believe that our reimagining represents a significant opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need. We are excited about the work ahead and look forward to sharing the foundation’s progress in the months and years to come.
