VEGAS (September 12, 2026) – Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced today, September 12, that the team has signed Team Captain Mark Stone to a two-year contract extension through the 2028-29 season worth an average annual value of $9 million.
Stone, 34, has appeared in 400 regular-season games for the Golden Knights after being acquired from the Ottawa Senators on Feb. 25, 2019. Since then, his 396 points (136 G, 260 A) and +112 rating both rank first among all Golden Knights. Stone also leads his team in goals (37) and points (118) on the power play, as well as game-winning goals (27) and takeaways (401) since he arrived in Vegas. Stone's 401 takeaways since starting with the club place him first among all NHL skaters in takeaways per game (1.00).
The winger tied his career high during the 2025-26 regular season when he recorded 73 points (28 G, 45 A) in 60 contests. His 1.22 points per game last season was the highest in his 14-year career and ranked 11th among all NHL skaters. Stone recorded a seven-game goal streak during the 2025-26 campaign, the longest stretch of his career and tied for the longest in team history. Stone has finished as a Selke Trophy finalist on two occasions with the Golden Knights (2019, 2021), nominated for the award given annually to the NHL forward who best excels in the defensive aspects of the game.
In the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Stone has appeared in 102 games with Vegas and is the franchise's all-time leader in postseason goals (43) and points (84). The forward helped Vegas lift the Stanley Cup in 2023 by appearing in each of the 22 games during their historic run and finishing third on the team in playoff points with 24 (11 G, 13 A). Stone recorded a hat trick as part of the 9-3 win in Game 5 against the Florida Panthers to propel his club to their first championship, becoming the third player to do so in a Stanley Cup-clinching victory and the first since 1922 in NHL history.
Internationally, the native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, represented his country at the Winter Olympics in February and helped Canada earn a silver medal by skating in each of their six contests during the best-on-best tournament, registering four points (2 G, 2 A). Stone helped Canada win the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off, playing in each of his country's four games during the event and scoring a goal in the opening match against Sweden. The forward also represented Canada at the 2019 IIHF World Championship, when he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, and the 2016 IIHF World Championship when he earned a gold medal.
Stone was named the first captain in franchise history on Jan. 13, 2021. Prior to his time with the Golden Knights, Stone spent parts of seven seasons in Ottawa. With the Senators, the six-foot-three forward skated in 366 games and tallied 123 goals and 188 assists for 311 points. Stone was selected by Ottawa in the sixth round (178th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft.
