Follow Calle Odelius and Aleksi Malinen at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship
DAY 8: SWEDEN ADVANCES TO SEMIS, ELIMINATE FINLAND
Calle Odelius and Sweden have advanced to the World Junior semis after a 3-2 win over Aleksi Malinen and Finland on Monday.
Odelius, the Islanders' 2022 second round pick, saw limited action in the win, playing 4:34. Sweden will play Czechia on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. eastern.
Malinen, the Isles' 2021 sixth round pick, finished the game with 17:33 TOI and one shot. Malinen finished the tournament with one assist in five games.

DAY 6: FINLAND LOSES TO USA
Finland closed out round robin play with a 6-2 loss to Team USA on Saturday. The loss drops Finland to 2-0-1-1 (W-OTW-OTL-L) and a second place finish in Group B.
Aleksi Malinen played 16:59 with one shot on goal in the loss.
DAY 4: FINLAND SHUTS OUT LATVIA 3-0, MALINEN RECORDS ASSIST
Aleksi Malinen recorded his first assist of the 2023 World Juniors, as Finland shut out Latvia 3-0.
Malinen had the primary assist on Jani Nyman's eventual game-winning goal.

He finished the game with 18:25 TOI.
Calle Odelius and Sweden beat Czechia 3-2 to improve to 3-0-0 at the World Juniors. The Islanders 2022 second round pick skated 18:59 in the win.
DAY 2: FINLAND BEATS SLOVAKIA, SWEDEN SHUTS OUT GERMANY
After losing to Switzerland to open their tournament, Finland bounced back with a 5-2 win over Slovakia on Tuesday. Islanders prospect Aleksi Malinen played 17:32 in the win with two shots on goal.
Sweden picked up its second win - and shutout - of the tournament, blanking Germany 1-0 on Tuesday. The win came on the heels of a dominant 11-0 win over Austria the day before. Isles prospect Calle Odelius played 16:02 with one shot on goal.
DAY 1: ODELIUS SCORES FOR SWEDEN, FINLAND LOSES IN OT
Calle Odelius scored in his World Juniors debut, netting Sweden's eighth goal in an 11-0 rout over Austria. Odelius finished the game with a goal and a shot in 14:55 TOI.

Aleksi Malinen and Finland suffered a 3-2 OT loss to Switzerland in their tournament opener. Malinen finished the game with 17:44 TOI and was a -1.
Both teams are in action on Tuesday, with Sweden taking on Germany at 1:30 p.m. est and Finland taking on Slovakia at 11 a.m. est.

PREVIEW:

Two Islanders prospects will compete in the 2023 World Junior Hockey Championships, beginning on Monday, Dec. 26 in Halifax and Moncton.
Calle Odelius, the Islanders' second round pick in 2022 (65th overall), will compete for Sweden, while Aleksi Malinen, the Islanders' 2021 sixth-round pick (189th overall), will compete for Finland. This will be the first World Juniors for the two prospects, both defensemen.
Odelius competed for Sweden at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2021 and at the U18 World Junior Championships. He currently competes in the Hockey Allsvenskan for Djurgårdens IF. Malinen currently has two assists in 26 games with JYP in Liiga, Finland's top professional league.
This year's
World Juniors
will take place from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Moncton, New Brunswick.
