7 Facts About Jordan Eberle

Jordan Eberle became a New York Islander on Thursday afternoon
, as the Isles dealt Ryan Strome to the Edmonton Oilers.
Eberle said he's excited to start playing for the Islanders
and play with his close friend John Tavares.
But there's a lot more to Eberle then just being a longtime Oilers winger and friend of the Islanders captain. Here are seven things to know about Jordan Eberle.

HE'LL WEAR NUMBER 7

After wearing number 14 with Edmonton, Eberle wear number 7 for the Islanders, which was his junior number with the Regina Pats. Seven has since been retired in Regina by the Pats. Eberle is the first Islander since Matt Carkner in 2013-14 to wear number 7.

THE GUY CAN SCORE

Eberle has five 20 goal seasons in his seven years in the NHL. Eberle's career-high was 34 goals in 2011-12, but has hit 20 in each of the last five full seasons (he scored 16 in the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, on pace to easily break 20). Eberle's 147 goals in the last six seasons rank 22nd in the NHL, while his 165 career goals rank 24th since he entered the league.

EBERLE'S FIRST-CAREER GOAL WAS A BEAUTY

His first career NHL goal was a beauty against the Calgary Flames and it was voted the goal of the year on the NHL's Facebook page for 2010-11.

HE'S THE THIRD-LEADING SCORER FROM THE 2008 DRAFT

Eberle's 382 career points (165G, 217A) make him the third leading scorer in the 2008 draft, behind only Steven Stamkos and Erik Karlsson. Eberle was drafted 22nd overall.

EBERLE PLAYED HIS JUNIOR HOCKEY IN REGINA

Eberle played his junior hockey with the Regina Pats, winning the CHL Player of the Year in 2010. Eberle is also a Regina, Saskatchewan native.

EBERLE IS A TWO-TIME NHL ALL-STAR

Eberle is a two-time NHL All-Star, selected in the 2010-11 and 2011-12 all-star games. Injuries kept him out of his first all-star game, but he played in the second in 2012.

EBERLE IS AN INTERNATIONAL STAR

Eberle won a gold medal with John Tavares and Thomas Hickey at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship. Eberle played a key role in the win, with 13 points in six games and scoring a clutch last-second goal to force overtime against Russia in the semi-finals.

Eberle also won a gold medal at the U18 Worlds in 2008 and gold at 2015 World Championship. He also was named Best Forward and Tournament MVP at the 2010 World Juniors, where he took home a silver medal.
Eberle's 26 points in World Junior competition is tied for second all-time on Team Canada.
