1. THE BASICS

Horvat is a 6'0, 215 lbs. left-handed center. He's played 621 games in the NHL - all with Vancouver - and has racked up 420 points (201G, 219A) over that span. His 201 goals rank 34th in the NHL since debuting in 2014-15.

2. HE'S A PROVEN GOAL SCORER

Horvat has 201 goals over the past nine seasons, including a career-high 31 in each of the past two years. Horvat has scored 20-or-more goals in each of the last six full seasons, along with and additional 19 in the abbreviated 56-game season in 2020-21. Twenty-five of Horvat's 201 goals have been game-winners.
Horvat's 31 goals rank eighth in the NHL this year and 62 goals over the past two seasons are tied for 15th in the NHL.
This season, 17 of Horvat's 31 goals have come at even strength, while 11 have come on the power play and three have been shorthanded.

3. HE'S A CAPTAIN

Horvat has worn the "C" in Vancouver since the start of the 2019-20 season. Horvat previously wore an "A" with the Canucks in 2018-19 and wore an "A" with the London Knights in 2013-14, his final season in junior.

4. HORVAT WAS ESSENTIALLY TRADED FOR CORY SCHNEIDER IN 2013

Horvat was picked ninth overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2013 NHL Draft. The pick originally belonged to New Jersey, but then Devils GM Lou Lamoriello dealt the pick to Vancouver for goaltender Cory Schneider.

5. INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Horvat played for Canada in the 2014 World Juniors, recording three points (1G, 2A) in seven games. In 2018, Horvat was a member of Team Canada's World Championship team, alongside current Islanders Josh Bailey, Mathew Barzal, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Ryan Pulock. Horvat scored seven points (3G, 4A) in 10 games during the tournament.


6. HE'S A CENTER AND FACE-OFF ACE

Horvat is a center and is one of the best face-off takers in the league. Per the Islanders release:
Out of the 10 players in the NHL that have taken over 900 faceoffs thus far this season, Horvat is averaging a 56% win percentage, which is fourth in the league behind only Patrice Bergeron (61.2%), Anze Kopitar (57%) and Islanders forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau (56.3%).
That only bolsters the Islanders center depth. Brock Nelson (46 points) and Mathew Barzal (43 points) are currently first and second in points on the Islanders. Between Pageau's 56.3 FOW% and Casey Cizikas' 53.3 FOW%, the Islanders now have three of the league's top 35 face-off men (among centers with at least 600 draws).
