With UBS Arena under construction, the Islanders are starting the season with a lengthy road trip. The Islanders will play their first 13 games on the road this season, the longest trip in team history, a road stretch lasting more than a month.
While a 13-game road trip sounds daunting, the NHL has inserted some lengthy breaks to allow for the Islanders to spend some time at home and catch their breath. The Islanders will have five full days off from Oct. 25-29 between contests in Vegas and Nashville. The Islanders will have three days off after playing the Predators, and three more days off from the end of the road trip to the home opener.
The 13-game road trip is one shy of the Vancouver Canucks' 14-game road trip in the 2009-10 season, as Rogers Arena was being converted for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The longest Islanders road trip was a nine-gamer back in the 2016-17 season, where the team was away from Feb. 21 to March 11 and went 5-3-1 on the trip.
The Islanders will also have a seven-game road trip from Apr. 1-15, though two of the seven contests will be against Tri-State rivals in the Rangers and Devils.
