The Islanders' late push was accounted for by their youth, as Michael Dal Colle scored his first goal of the season to get the scoring going. Sebastian Aho followed and Oliver Wahlstrom scored the game-tying goal. Unfortunately, the Islanders comeback fell short as Flyers forward Oskar Lindblom scored his second of the game with 2:22 left to play to give his team the deciding 4-3 win. Philadelphia's other goals all came in the second period including Lindblom's first, Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek all finding the back of the net. Carter Hart backstopped Philadelphia's win with 22 saves while Semyon Varlamov made 27 saves in the Islanders' loss.
With a 3-1 loss to Washington on Tuesday, Islanders dropped their second-straight game after previously winning nine-consecutive contests. The group prides themselves on their consistency and being a hard team to play against night-in and night-out. So needless to say, two-straight losses doesn't sit well with the group or the coaching staff.
"Let's get back to being consistent in what we're doing, we weren't very consistent," Head Coach Barry Trotz said. "I thought our battle on the puck was on the very poor scale of compete for our team and for the character of this group. our battle level, we weren't as engaged as we needed to be to beat a good team."
The Islanders have yet to win a game against Philadelphia this season (0-1-2) and are determined to get back in the win column on Saturday night as they host the Flyers for the second of their three-game set.
"Good teams don't lose three games in a row and three games against the same team," Jean-Gabriel Pageau said. "We haven't beat Philly this year. It's a big challenge in front of us, but we're up for it."
