Islanders Draft Notebook

With five picks on Day 2, the Islanders loaded up on talent across the board.
A breakdown of who are the newest members of the Islanders and what they bring to the table.

Calle Odlius - D (Round 2, 65th overall)
- The 6' defensemen is fresh off a 30-point season (7G,23A) where he appeared in 43 games for the Djurgarden Jr, a European Junior Hockey team based in Djurgardens, Sweden. The lefty handles pressure very nicely and is strong defensively. Odlius can implement pressure in low-danger areas while scanning the ice for available passing lanes. He joins the Islanders ready to skate after finishing top-5 in three events at the NHL combine.

Quinn Finley - F (Round 3, 78th overall)
- Ranked 36th among North American Skaters, the soon-to-be Wisconsin Badger shows speed and versatility when transitioning with the puck. Former coaches have mentioned Finley's ability to bypass defenders off the rush and create scoring chances for himself and his linemates. His playmaking ability and high-hockey IQ is a strength in Finley's game that should transition well to the next level. The 17-year-old netted 12 goals and 17 assists in 29 games in the USHL last season. Fun Fact: Finley grew up watching the #Isles Captain, Andres Lee, and got the chance to chat with him on the phone shortly after being selected.
Finley said, "I'm super proud…And I am super excited." to be part of the Islanders organization.

Isaiah George - D (Round 4, 98th overall)
- An excellent skating defenseman, George's skating has been described by scouts as effortless while moving with the puck. During the combine, George's speed was on display during the CHL/NHL Top Prospect testing, finishing 1st among all skaters in the 30M backward skate with a time of 4.476 seconds. His 30M forward skate with the puck was the third-best time at 3.903 seconds. Overall, he was the fourth-best skater in the entire showcase. George can close the gaps in the neutral zone, move the puck in transition and has the ability to play different roles switching from the left side to the right side.

Matthew Maggio - F (Round 5, 142nd overall)
- The Tecumseh native put up 85 points last season for the OHL's Windsor Spitfires. Scouts described Maggio as a fast forward who loves to shoot and can be utilized on the power play in the NHL. His ability to shift defenders and open passing lanes is one of the reasons Maggio excelled so highly in last year's OHL season.

Daylan Kuefler - F (Round 6, 174th overall)
- Kuefler spent the previous three seasons with the WHL's Kamloops Blazers where the 20-year-old forward finished third in scoring last season with 59 points (38G and 21A) in 65 games. A forward not afraid of contact, Kuefler blocked a shot, got stitches and returned to the game during the same period back in April. He is strong on his skates and brings a big hit ability to the Islanders.
