MAGGIO NAMED OHL MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER

Matt Maggio won the most prestigious individual award in the Ontario Hockey League on Friday, taking home the Red Tilson Trophy as the league's Most Outstanding Player in the regular season.

The New York Islanders' 2022 fifth round draft pick (142nd overall) accumulated 111 points (54G, 57) in the regular season and towered over OHL standings as the league's leader in goals. He signed a

with the Islanders on May 1. The 20-year-old is eligible to play in the American Hockey League next season.

Maggio became the second consecutive Windsor Spitfire player and fifth in franchise history to take home the Red Tilson Trophy. Notable active players in the NHL who've also earned the Red Tilson Trophy include Tyler Seguin (2010), Connor McDavid (2015) and Mitch Marner (2016). Former Islander

earned the award in back-to-back years (2001 and 2002). Former Islander John Tavares also won in 2007.

With the Red Tilson honor, Maggio will be the OHL nominee for the Canadian Hockey League's Player of the Year Award presented on June 3.


BRIDGEPORT ISLANDERS SIGN KRYGIER AND PIVONKA

Defenseman Christian Krygier and forward Jacob Pivonka inked AHL contracts for next season on Friday after joining the Bridgeport Islanders on Amateur Tryout Agreements (ATOs) at the end of last season.

Pivonka, who the Islanders selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NHL Draft (103rd overall), made his professional debut with Bridgeport on Apr. 1 and played four games. The 23-year-old winger set career highs in the 2022-23 season with the University of Nebraska-Omaha with 18 points (10G, 8A) after playing in four seasons at the University of Notre Dame.

Krygier, who the Islanders selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NHL Draft (196th overall), played two games for Bridgeport after concluding his fifth and final NCAA season at Michigan State University as an alternate captain. The 23-year-old defenseman registered four points (1G, 3A) through 28 games in the 2022-23 regular season.


GEORGE AND KNIGHTS BATTLE IN THE FINALS

Isaiah George and the London Knights are knotted at one game apiece with the Peterborough Petes in the OHL Finals.

The Knights posted a 3-0 shutout in Game One of the series against the Petes on Thursday. George, the Islanders' 2022 fourth rounder (98th overall) registered an assist on the empty netter in the victory for his second point in the postseason.

The 19-year-old defenseman has two assists through 16 games in the playoffs.

George and the Knights will take on the Petes on the road for Game Three on Monday.


FINLEY AND STEEL ELIMINATED IN CONFERENCE FINALS

Quinn Finley's season came to an end on Tuesday with a 2-1 loss in Game Four of the USHL Eastern Conference Final.

The Chicago Steel fell short in the best-of-five series to the Youngstown Phantoms, who will advance to the Clark Cup Final.

Finley, the Islanders 2022 third-round draft pick (78th overall) concluded his second career USHL playoff run with four points (2G, 2A) in six games. The 18-year-old forward took 17 shots and registered two game-winners over that span.
