Sorokin

The New York Islanders have signed goaltender Ilya Sorokin to an eight-year contract extension, which will go into effect at the start of the 2024-25 season.

Sorokin, 27, set career-highs in wins (31) and starts (60) this season, as he posted a 31-22-7 record during his third campaign with the Islanders. His 31 wins were the most by an Islanders netminder since the 2014-15 season (Jaroslav Halak, 38). Sorokin's .924 save percentage was third-highest amongst NHL netminders with at least 25 starts, and his 2.34 goals-against average was sixth lowest.

A native of Mezhdurechensk, RUS, Sorokin led the NHL with six shutouts in 2022-23. He represented the Islanders at the 2023 NHL All-Star Game in Sunrise, FL.

The Islanders selected Sorokin in the third round (78th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft. In 136 career games over three seasons with the Islanders, he's posted a 70-46-18 record with 16 shutouts, a 2.34 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage. Sorokin has also appeared in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Islanders, posting a 6-5 record with a 2.70 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage.

Prior to joining the Islanders, Sorokin spent eight seasons with CSKA Moscow and Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), where he posted a 1.70 GAA and .930 save percentage in 244 regular season starts. Sorokin also won an Olympic Gold Medal with the Olympic Athletes from Russia at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
