The New York Islanders announced today that Bill Torrey Appreciation Night will take place on Saturday, March 9, when the team takes on the Philadelphia Flyers at 7 p.m. at NYCB Live - Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Islanders players will wear a "WAT" patch on their jerseys for the game. Torrey's family will drop the ceremonial opening face-off and all fans in attendance will receive a "Bow-Tie" Bill Torrey replica banner.

Torrey, a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame, was the Islanders General Manager and Alternate Governor for 20 years, beginning with the franchise's first season in the National Hockey League, 1972. He was known as "The Architect" for his role in assembling the Islanders dynasty that won four straight Stanley Cup Championships from 1980-83. He also acted as Islanders President from 1980-89 and Chairman of the Board from 1989-92. Torrey passed away on May 3, 2018 at the age of 83.
