Mathew Barzal was activated from COVID-19 protocols, Islanders President and General Manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed on Sunday. Barzal was placed in protocol on Dec. 14 ahead of the Islanders 2-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. Barzal leads the Islanders with 17 points (5G, 12A) in 23 games this season and was riding a six-game point streak (1G, 8A) ahead of entering protocol.
Lamoriello also said that Matt Martin and Robin Salo are expected to come out of COVID-19 protocol on Wednesday, Dec. 29. Both players entered protocol on Dec. 19.
Martin is second on the Islanders with 72 hits this season and has one assist in 19 games. Salo recorded his first-career point on Thursday vs Boston and has one helper in seven games in his rookie season.
