Zdeno Chara was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Feb. 26, the New York Islanders announced on Saturday morning.
Chara suffered an upper-body injury in the contest vs the LA Kings and has been sidelined for the past three games. The defenseman, who set the NHL's games played record for blueliners with his 1,652nd game on Feb. 24, has eight assists in 45 games this season for the Islanders.
With Chara on IR, the Islanders recalled defenseman Parker Wotherspoon from Bridgeport. The Islanders' 2015 fourth-round pick (112th overall) has 15 points (3G, 22A) and 101 PIMs in 44 games with Bridgeport - his fifth full season in the American Hockey League.
The Islanders also recalled forward Otto Koivula, who has one assist in three games with the New York Islanders this season and 36 points (10G, 26A) in 43 games with Bridgeport.
Islanders Captain Anders Lee will miss Saturday's game due to personal reasons. Mathew Barzal, who has missed three games with a lower-body injury will be a game-time decision when the Islanders host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday afternoon.
