Adam Pelech was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Dec. 6, the New York Islanders announced on Thursday afternoon.
Pelech was injured during the Islanders' 7-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues after a collision with Robert Bortuzzo and has been sidelined with an upper-body injury since. The defenseman has missed the Islanders past three games with the team going 1-1-1 over that span.
Pelech did not accompany the team to Arizona, where they take on the Coyotes on Friday night. Head Coach Lane Lambert did not offer a timetable for his return.
"When he's here, you'll see him on the ice," Lambert said.
This season, Pelech has scored 11 points (3G, 8A) in 27 games. He averages a team-leading 20:49 TOI per game and also leads the team with a +12 rating. Pelech has 41 shot blocks and 39 hits.
