Andrew Ladd took line rushes with Brock Nelson and Josh Bailey, as Trotz continues to rotate players on Nelson's left wing. Anthony Beauvillier, Michael Dal Colle, Tom Kuhnhackl and Ross Johnston had all previously skated with Nelson and Bailey during camp.
The French Connection stayed intact, as Anthony Beauvillier took line rushes with JG Pageau and Derick Brassard, while Johnston and Dal Colle skated on a line with Otto Koivula.
"I'm pretty close to getting most of the roster I want to make sure I'm not missing anything," Trotz said. "Also what it does is give you a couple of options and I think that's important as we go into this. The scrimmages for the most part haven't been physical for most teams and all of the sudden you'll get into the playoff and it'll become physical and the body isn't quite used to it, so I want to have everyone prepared and also reward some guys. Today, Andrew Ladd had a bit of a slow start through training camp but he's gotten better and putting him in a position where he can be in the mix and he needs to put himself in that position."
Ladd suffered a pair of knee injuries, including a torn ACL during the 2018-19 season and spent a majority of the 2019-20 season with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, earning three recalls throughout the season. Ladd was in the lineup for the Isles last game before the pause, scoring a goal in a 5-4 shootout loss in Vancouver. The 950-game veteran, who won a Stanley Cup in 2010 with Chicago, said that while he was feeling good about where his game, conditioning and mentality were, he feels like he still needs to prove himself to Trotz and co.
"I think I still have to prove myself," Ladd said. "It's been a long road back from those two knee surgeries and just trying to gain their confidence, so I think I've got a good mind frame in terms of what I want to do to accomplish [that]. I know the player that I am, the player I can be and how I can help out and that's just my goal and help out and help this team win. Given the opportunity I'll be ready."
