Last week the Islanders drafted a Puppy with a Purpose, when Matt Martin and Thomas Hickey took him home from the Guide Dog Foundation.
They gave the seven-week-old Lab a team-issued starter kit: jersey, hat, collar, but he didn't have a name. Naturally, it had to be something Islanders-related, so who better to ask than Islanders fans.

Islanders Pick A Puppy

For the uninitiated, Radar was the nickname for the late Islanders coach Al Arbour. Arbour led the Isles to four straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83 and leads the franchise in wins (740) and games coached (1500) by a wide margin. He's in the Hockey Hall of Fame and his banner hangs in the rafters.
Radar - the puppy - is a small homage to the legendary coach and a pretty fitting name for the newest Islander!
