One of the things the Islanders did well on their recent road trip was stay out of the penalty box. The Islanders were shorthanded five times over the three-game trip, killing off four penalties. It was a stark contrast to the four games before the trip, where the Islanders were shorthanded at least five times in each game.
"It's obviously important something we've talked about. The less time we spend in the box, the more opportunities we have to get power plays and score goals. You look around the league and the most-penalized teams usually aren't at the top, especially when they are minor penalties, which is something we've wanted to address."
Calgary enters Monday's game as the most penalized team in the league (121 total penalties) yielding 91 power plays for their opponents. The Flames were shorthanded six times on Sunday against Philadelphia, but scored a pair of shorthanded goals.
The Flames shorthanded unit is 29th in the NHL (75.8%), though it has improved since Nov. 12, killing at an 83.3% clip (25-of-30) since then.
