TW - LOSS

The New York Islanders earned a point, but left one on the table, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday night.
Scott Mayfield and Mathew Barzal scored for the Islanders, but Patrik Laine's OT winner propelled the Blue Jackets to the win 1:49 into the extra frame. Boone Jenner and Cole Sillinger also scored for Columbus, netting a pair of goals 33 seconds apart near the end of the second period.
The loss drops the Islanders to 1-2-1 on the season, while Columbus improved to 3-1-0 on the season.

10:35 - NYI 1, CBJ 0 - Scott Mayfield pinches off the blue line, skates to the front of the net and puts a shot off Sean Kuraly's stick and through Elvis Merzlikins' pads. The goal is Mayfield's first of the season and the first tally from an Islanders defenseman.
18:00 - NYI 1, CBJ 1 PP - Boone Jenner gets the second deflection on a Jakub Voracek shot that beats Ilya Sorokin. Oliver Bjorkstrand gets the first tip on Voracek's shot.
18:33 - CBJ 2, NYI 1 - Columbus takes the lead 33 seconds after tying the score, as Cole Sillinger scores his first-career NHL goal. Sillinger skates to the front of the net undetected before burying in a Vladislav Gavrikov feed. Bjorkstrand with the second assist.
3rd Period:
5:03 - NYI 2, CBJ 2 - Mathew Barzal ties the score 2-2, wiring a wrist shot upstairs on Merzlikins. Assists to Noah Dobson and Matt Martin. Barzal's goal comes on his eighth shot of the game.
OT:
1:49 - CBJ 3, NYI 2 - Patrik Laine snaps a wrist shot blocker side past Sorokin to seal it for Columbus.
