Jesper Fast scored the overtime winner at 5:03 into the extra frame, as the New York Islanders fell 4-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game Two of their best-of-seven series. As a result, the Islanders trail the series 2-0.
Fast's overtime winner was an unsatisfying result to a solid game for the Islanders, who at one point rallied out of a 2-0 hole to take a 3-2 lead. Kyle Palmieri (1G, 1A), Mathew Barzal and Brock Nelson (1G, 1A) scored for the Islanders in regulation, while Paul Stastny, Stefan Noesen and Jaccob Slavin (1G, 1A) also scored for the Hurricanes.
Special teams were lopsided for Game Two, as the Islanders did not receive a power play but went 5-for-6 on the kill.
Ilya Sorokin made 32 saves in the loss, while Antti Raanta made 23 saves in the win.

THE SCORING:
1st Period:
5:49 CAR 1, NYI 0 - Seth Jarvis collects the puck at the point and slides it to Jaccob Slavin, who takes a tough-angle shot from the boards, which gets tipped in by Paul Stastny to break the ice.
2nd Period:
7:19 - CAR 2, NYI 0 PPG - The Islanders nearly killed off a double minor penalty, but the Hurricanes capitalize off a fluke goal to deepen their lead. Stefan Noesen scooped up the puck, but it's batted away by Sebastian Aho (Islanders) and floats toward the net and bounces past Ilya Sorokin.
10:48 - CAR 2, NYI 1 - Kyle Palmieri skates behind the net for a wide wraparound, firing off a backhand shot to beat Antti Raanta to get the Islanders on the board and pull within one. Noah Dobson and Brock Nelson tally assists.

19:39 - CAR 2, NYI 2 - Adam Pelech carries the puck through the neutral zone into the Hurricanes zone and feeds Mathew Barzal, who moves down the slot and uses a wicked wrister to beat Raanta to tie the game, scoring his first since returning from injury.

3rd Period:
9:18 - NYI 3, CAR 2 - Brock Nelson breaks into the offensive zone, navigates past Martin Necas and wrists a shot through Raanta for the Islanders' first lead of the night and of the series. Palmieri and Dobson record the assists on the play, each picking up their second point of the night.

12:19 - NYI 3, CAR 3 - Slavin takes a shot from the goal line, which bounces of the helmet of Sorokin and into the back of the net to tie the score. Brent Burns and Sebastian Aho collect assists.
Overtime:
5:03 - CAR 4, NYI 3 - Jesper Fast recieves a cross-ice pass from Jordan Staal and rips a shot past Sorokin to win the game in overtime. Burns picks up the secondary assist for his second point of the game.
NOTEBOOK:
Mathew Barzal scored his first goal of the series and first since Feb. 9... Kyle Palmieri scored his 16th career playoff goal and 26th postseason point with an assist... Palmieri, Noah Dobson (2A) and Brock Nelson (1G, 1A) all had multi-point nights... Casey Cizikas and Samuel Bolduc each received a double minor for high sticking... The Islanders ended regulation with 52 hits and edged the Hurricanes 54-28 in hits including overtime... Ryan Pulock led the team with seven hits... Palmieri took a team-high four shots... GOALTENDING MATCHUP:
Ilya Sorokin stopped 32-of-36 in the loss.
Antti Raanta stopped 23-of-26 in the win.

The Islanders did not have a power play, while the penalty kill went 5-for-6.
