It was chippy. It was physical and it was a grind, but the New York Islanders picked up two points in a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday afternoon at UBS Arena.
It was a game that saw the Islanders block more shots (24) than put on net (20) and have two goals overturned, but regardless they snapped a two-game losing streak in the process.
Oliver Wahlstrom and Brock Nelson scored, while Ilya Sorokin made 27 saves for the win. While Sorokin's shutout bid was stolen by Robert Thomas with 2:52 to play, the Islanders netminder was clutch in the closing two minutes with St. Louis surging.
