The New York Islanders honored Mike Bossy with a shutout victory in Montreal, blanking the Canadiens 3-0 on Friday night at Centre Bell.
Ilya Sorokin stopped all 44 Canadiens shots for his seventh shutout of the season, tying Chico Resch and Semyon Varlamov for the single-season record for an Islanders goaltender.
Zach Parise and Noah Dobson scored on consecutive shots for the Islanders early in the third period, as Brock Nelson (1G, 1A) scored an empty netter for insurance.
The Canadiens outshot the Islanders 44-20, but weren't able to capitalize on any opportunity.
The Islanders fought hard on the ice following the passing of Islanders legend Mike Bossy, in what was an emotionally charged evening in Montreal.

6:09 - NYI 2, MTL 0 - Noah Dobson keeps the puck in the Canadiens zone, makes a small fake and blasts it past Price, beating him far side. Brock Nelson tallied the only assist on the play.
18:21 - NYI 3, MTL 0 - Brock Nelson records his second point of the night with an empty netter to seal the deal for the Islanders, extending their lead to 3-0 in the waning minutes of the game.

Zach Parise scored his fourth goal in three games, his first three-game goal streak since Apr. 14-17, 2021… Noah Dobson buried his 11th goal, tying Nick Leddy (2016-17) for most goals by an Islanders defenseman in a single season in the last decade. Ilya Sorokin was forced into action on Friday evening after Thursday's outing, marking the third time an Islanders goaltender started in back-to-back games this season. Sorokin went back-to-back in the beginning of the season (Oct. 23 and Oct. 24) and recorded shutout victories in both. Semyon Varlamov also earned wins the last time he went back-to-back (Mar. 31 and Apr. 1) with a .969 SV% average in both games combined. Ken Appleby was recalled from Worcester (ECHL) and served as backup following Varlamov's non-COVID illness… Stepping in for Ross Johnston, Oliver Wahlstrom blocked a shot in 7:09 of ice time against Montreal on Friday… The Islanders wear a #22 patch in honor of Mike Bossy… Carey Price made his return to the Canadiens' lineup since last season's Stanley Cup Final on July 7.

GOALTENDING MATCHUP:

Ilya Sorokin stopped 44-of-44 in the win, which marked his career-high in saves, but his second-highest shots faced all season.
Carey Price stopped 17-of-19 in the loss.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

The Islanders went 0-for-1 on the power play, while their penalty kill went a perfect 0-for-2. The Islanders have now killed 29 of their last 30 penalties.
