Game Five

The New York Islanders kept their season alive with a 3-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Game Five on Tuesday night, forcing a Game Six on Friday night at UBS Arena. The Isles still trail 3-2 in the best-of-seven series.
Pierre Engvall (1G, 1A), Brock Nelson (1G, 1A) and Mathew Barzal scored for the Islanders to pick up their first road win of the series at PNC Arena. Paul Stastny and Sebastian Aho scored for the Hurricanes.
Ilya Sorokin made 34 saves in his fifth straight start in the playoffs, while Antti Raanta made 19 saves, also in net for the entirety of the series so far.

THE SCORING:
1st Period:
10:27 - NYI 1, CAR 0 - Pierre Engvall forechecks in the Hurricanes zone, causing a turnover that winds up on Brock Nelson's stick along the boards. Nelson chips it toward Pierre Engvall, who is alone in front of the net and slips one past Antti Raanta to open the scoring.

2nd Period:
3:16 - NYI 2, CAR 0 - Kyle Palmieri sauces the puck to Engvall, who skates along the boards and takes a shot the high slot, which whacks Sebastian Aho (Canes) in the face. Brock Nelson bats the puck in from the side of the net to double the Islanders lead.

13:10 - NYI 2, CAR 1 - Jalen Chatfield takes a long shot from the point which is deflected by Paul Stastny to beat Sorokin to bring the Hurricanes within one. Jesse Puljujarvi records the secondary assist.
18:05 - NYI 3, CAR 1 - Mathew Barzal and Bo Horvat race down the ice after a turnover in the neutral zone on a four-on-four rush. Barzal keeps, holds and fires a shot past Raanta to recover the two-goal advantage.

3rd Period:
10:28 - NYI 3, CAR 2 - Seth Jarvis collects the puck from behind the net and feeds Sebastian Aho, who wristed a shot through Sorokin to pull within one. Jesperi Kotkaniemi tallies the secondary assist.
NOTEBOOK:
Pierre Engvall netted his first career NHL playoff goal with a tally in the first. The Islanders scored a first period goal for the first time in 10 playoff games... The Islanders challenged and overturned a Hurricanes power-play goal in the first period for being offside... The Islanders broke their 24-game streak without leading after the first period, which was the longest streak since 1935... Mathew Barzal buried his second goal of the postseason...
