The New York Islanders beat the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 on Tuesday night at UBS Arena, earning two points in a key wild card matchup.
Casey Cizikas (1G, 1A), Josh Bailey (1G, 1A) and Hudson Fasching (1G, 1A) powered the offense for the Islanders, while Dylan Cozens and Owen Powers had the pair of goals for Buffalo.
Ilya Sorokin made 22 saves in his second consecutive win, while Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 36 of 39 in the loss.
With the win, the Islanders (74 points) stayed in the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, one point up on the Pittsburgh Penguins (73 points), though the Penguins have three games in hand. The win also puts some breathing room between the Isles and Sabres (68 points), though Buffalo still retains three games in hand.
