The New York Islanders fell 3-2 in overtime to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night in the second half of a back-to-back set.
Brock Nelson scored his team-high 16th goal of the season and Matt Martin netted his fifth of the season to generate offense for the Islanders, but it wasn't enough to stop a comeback effort from the Sabres. Alex Tuch scored in the second period and Victor Olofsson scored in the third period to push the game to the extra frame, while Dylan Cozens netted the OT winner in the first 12 seconds of overtime to take the win for Buffalo.
Ilya Sorokin made 42 saves in the loss, with 19 of those in the first frame. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stopped 24-of-26 in the win.

8:26 - NYI 1, BUF 1 - Off the faceoff draw, Jeff Skinner sends the puck back to Rasmus Dalin at the point, who fires the shot initially saved by Sorokin. Alex Tuch is there to bury the rebound to tie the game.
18:30 - NYI 2, BUF 1 - Casey Cizikas circles behind the net and finds an open Matt Martin, who beats Luukkonen to take back the Islanders lead.

Third Period
9:32 - BUF 2, NYI 2 - After a battle against the boards, Casey Mittelstadt carries the puck out and feeds Victor Olofsson, who beats Sorokin to even the score at two. Tyson Josh collects the secondary assist.
Overtime
0:12 - BUF 3, NYI 2 - Dylan Cozens recieves a pass from Rasmus Dahlin and moves in on Sorokin in the low slot, burying the game-winner early into the extra frame. Tage Thompson has the secondary assist.
NOTEBOOK
Hudson Fasching was a last-minute scratch, listed with a lower-body injury... Cal Clutterbuck left the game after 10:21 TOI and didn't return after the second period... With his team-leading 16th goal of the season, Brock Nelson snapped a 14-game goal drought... Matt Martin netted his fifth goal of the season for his third point (2G, 1A) in his last five outings. Martin recorded a season-high 15:02 TOI and had 10 hits, which surpasses the total hit count for the Buffalo Sabres as a whole (9) ...
