Final

The New York Islanders picked up an important point on Thursday night, but ultimately left one on the table in a 2-1 OT loss to the San Jose Sharks at UBS Arena.
The point was the Islanders first in nine games, snapping a skid of eight-straight regulation losses, though the team's winless streak has reached nine games for the first time since Nov. 19 - Dec. 9, 2013.
Erik Karlsson scored the OT winner 39 seconds into the extra frame, tapping in a Timo Meier pass after the duo failed to convert on a two-on-one rush.
Mathew Barzal scored on the Islanders first shot of the game, while Nick Bonino tied the score 1-1 midway through the first period.

THE SCORING

1:04 -NYI 1, SJS 0 - Mathew Barzal skates down the rings wing and wrists his fifth goal of the season top corner, far side past Adin Hill. Andy Greene, returning from a four-game absence due to COVID protocol, picks up the primary assist while Scott Mayfield gets the secondary helper. Barzal's goal counts as the first Islanders lead at UBS Arena.
9:10 - NYI 1, SJS 1 - The Sharks work the puck around the Islanders zone during, with Jonathan Dahlen ultimately feeding Nick Bonino for a backdoor tap-in just as the man advantage expired.

0:39 - SJS 2, NYI 1 - Karlsson and Meier lead a two-on-one rush up the ice and while the duo fail to connect on the initial try, Meier was able to corral the rebound at the side of the net and feed Karlsson in front for a tap-in.

GOALTENDING BATTLE:
Ilya Sorokin was solid again for the Islanders, stopping 33 of 35, including all 15 shots in the second period.
Adin Hill stopped 24 of 25 for San Jose.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Islanders went 3-for-3 on the penalty kill and did not have a power play.
NOTEBOOK:
Josh Bailey, Andy Greene, Anders Lee and Adam Pelech all made their UBS Arena debuts after returning from COVID-19 protocol... Lee and Bailey skated alongside Barzal, Greene was paired with Noah Dobson and Pelech was paired with Scott Mayfield... Barzal's goal gave the Islanders their first lead at UBS Arena...
