The New York Islanders picked up an important point on Thursday night, but ultimately left one on the table in a 2-1 OT loss to the San Jose Sharks at UBS Arena.
The point was the Islanders first in nine games, snapping a skid of eight-straight regulation losses, though the team's winless streak has reached nine games for the first time since Nov. 19 - Dec. 9, 2013.
Erik Karlsson scored the OT winner 39 seconds into the extra frame, tapping in a Timo Meier pass after the duo failed to convert on a two-on-one rush.
Mathew Barzal scored on the Islanders first shot of the game, while Nick Bonino tied the score 1-1 midway through the first period.
