The National Hockey League announced today that goaltender Ilya Sorokin has been named the NHL's "Third Star" for the Week ending October 24, 2021.
Sorokin became the first goaltender in club history to record shutouts in each game of a back-to-back series, as the Islanders blanked the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 Saturday night and the Vegas Golden Knights 2-0 Sunday night. The 26-year-old netminder's consecutive shutouts in back-to-back games are the 22nd instance in league history and the first since Ondrej Pavelec (WPG) on April 6-7, 2015. It is the second time in Sorokin's career that he has recorded a shutout in consecutive appearances. He is also the first Islanders goaltender to start both games in a back-to-back set since March 2019 (Lehner).

Sorokin made 136 saves on 140 shots faced through four games last week, including a career-high 42 saves against Vegas. The Islanders earned at least one point in all four games this past week.
Sorokin has a 3-2-1 record through a career-high six consecutive starts this season. He has a goals-against average of 2.33 and save percentage of .922, helping the Islanders to their best start through six games in the past four seasons.
