Andrew Ladd and John Tavares scored goals in the first 1:34 of the 2nd period to chase Braden Holtby and Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves as the Islanders defeated the Washington Capitals 3-1 before a crowd of 11,053 at Barclays Center.
Brock Nelson had opened scoring 2:36 into play with his 3rd goal in the last five games.

All three Islander Power Plays were created from Capital penalties against Mathew Barzal (2) and Joshua Ho-Sang.
Barzal has now drawn 17 penalties, tops among all NHL rookies and 4th in the entire NHL, behind Matthew Tkachuk (19), Nikita Kucherov (18) and Bryan Rust (18). Ho-Sang, who has played in 20 of the Isles' 30 games, has now drawn nine penalties, placing him in the top 6 among all rookies and tied for third on the team.
