March 3, 1992 -Mike Bossy's No. 22 is retired.
On March 3, 1992 - ahead of the Islanders' 5-2 win over Philadelphia - Bossy was honored with a pre-game ceremony at Nassau Coliseum, where his No. 22 jersey was sent to the rafters. He became the second Islander in franchise history - behind Denis Potvin - to have his number retired.
The iconic winger played the entirety of his 10-year NHL career with the Islanders where he amassed a grand total of 1,126 points (573G, 553A) in 752 games. The eight-time NHL All-Star is the franchise leader in goals and is second in total points.

During his career, Bossy - who the Islanders selected 15th overall at the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft - won the Calder Memorial Trophy following his 91-point (53G, 38A) rookie campaign. To further cement his legendary legacy, Bossy won four-straight Stanley Cups with the Islanders, became a three-time Lady Byng Memorial Trophy recipient and won the 1982 Conn Smythe Trophy. The Montreal native is also one of only five players in NHL history to have scored 50 goals in 50 games, which he accomplished in 1981. Bossy is tied with Wayne Gretzky for the most 50-goal seasons with nine, however, Bossy owns the record of most-consecutive 50-goal seasons with his nine straight.
In 1991, Bossy was selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame and in 2017, was named as one of the "100 Greatest NHL Players." Bossy passed away on April 15, 2022 at the age of 65.
