The New York Islanders recalled forward Liam Foudy on Tuesday morning, as Julien Gauthier was assigned to Bridgeport in a corresponding move after he cleared waivers Monday afternoon.
Foudy was acquired in the offseason, inking a one-year deal. The forward played three preseason games for Isles and potted a goal.
"I really liked the way he played in training camp," Head Coach Patrick Roy said. "I thought it was hard to let him go. I thought he had a great, he did everything we asked for, and he's been playing very well in Bridgeport. He deserves to be with us right now, he brings speed. He's capable of making plays, and I think his intensity or energy will serve us very well on that line with [MacLean] and [Wahlstrom]."
Foudy is off to a solid start with Bridgeport, collecting four assists and a plus-four rating through five games. He said that having a training camp with a new organization is helpful to acclimate, which he's hoping can translate into a strong debut for the Islanders if he's in the lineup on Tuesday night.
"It was great, I felt really good in camp," Foudy said. "It was great to start down there and get my legs under me, I think it'll help me up here. There's always nerves for every game, to get an opportunity again but it's going to be a lot of fun."
Foudy, 24, has 102 games of NHL experience playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Nashville Predators.
"He's a very fast player, we saw that in camp," MacLean said of Foudy. "It'll be great to play with him as a line, I'm excited to play with him.
