The New York Islanders got their first game action of Training Camp on Friday, as the group split into a scrimmage session. Team Blue beat Team White 3-2.

Brian Pinho, Matt Maggio and Tyce Thompson scored for Team Blue, while Alex Jefferies and Anders Lee scored for Team White. Getting in a full, three-period scrimmage was beneficial for the players, who enjoyed the battle level and replicating game action.

"It felt good, we definitely enjoy being able to play competitively, try to read some plays," Hudson Fasching said on Friday. "That's the best way to get prepared for the season."

The teams featured a healthy mix of veterans and rookies. The younger guys got to play and learn from the vets, while the vets enjoyed checking in on some of the prospects in the Isles system.

"To see the development in some of these guys' games, whether it be their first couple years in pro or going back to juniors, things like that, you see how well they develop and get stronger and bigger," Kyle Palmieri said. "They're the future of this team."

Head Coach Patrick Roy ran bag skate drills in the first two days of camp, which is conditioning he believes will benefit their mindset and grit during the season.

"It's important for them to understand [that] we need to continue even if we're tired," Roy said. "That was the objective behind having them skating at the end of the practice. Your legs are hurting, your arms are tired, your body is tired, but you need to continue to focus. I think that's going to help us get some consistency in our play."

There was also a practice group on Friday for players who didn't skate in the scrimmage.

Head Coach Patrick Roy focused on special teams in the session, making sure that the group got in some quality practice early on in camp.

"We have five games in nine days, so we won't really have time to practice a lot," Roy said, alluding to the slate of upcoming preseason games. "We just want to work on, not just the power play but the penalty kill. I thought it was important for guys to get a bit of a feel for it, they're going to be exposed to it during the season."
