Similar to Day 2 at the 2023 World Junior Championship, there were two Winnipeg Jets prospects in action on Day 3 at the tournament. However, unlike Day 2, both of those prospects were from the same team.
Rutger McGroarty and Chaz Lucius, taken in the first round of the 2022 and 2021 NHL Drafts respectively, were in action as USA tried to build on a tournament-opening win over Latvia.
It wasn't to be.

USA 3, SLOVAKIA 6
The Americans held a 2-1 lead after the first period, with McGroarty earning his first point of the tournament on Tyler Boucher's goal 4:42 into the first. That goal tied the game at the time, with the USA taking a 2-1 lead just 2:06 later.

But in the second, Slovakia scored three goals in 3:19 to storm out in front by a score of 4-2.
The USA continued to pepper the Slovakia goaltender, Adam Gajan, with shots, but they weren't able to cut into the lead early in the third. Instead, Slovakia's Peter Repcik put his team ahead 5-2 when his breakaway attempt banked off the skate of American defenceman Luke Hughes and in with 9:14 left in regulation.
A power play marker from Tyler Boucher pulled the Americans back within two, but Slovakia potted an empty netter to round out the scoring.
The USA (1-0-0-1) will take on Switzerland on Thursday. So far, the Swiss lead Group B with two overtime wins.
