USA 3, GREAT BRITAIN 0
The United States used their two days away from game action to the fullest, as they returned to the ice with a 3-0 win over Great Britain to improve to 2-1-0-1.
In their last outing before the two-day break, the Americans dropped a chippy 4-1 tilt to the hosts from Finland, and needed a victory to vault themselves up the Pool B standings.
After a scoreless first period, Nate Schmidt picked up his first of two assists in the game on the game's opening goal. The Jets defenceman won a board battle in the Great Britain zone, and Ben Meyers swooped in to pick up the loose puck. He sent a pass to the right point to Andrew Peeke, then redirected Peeke's shot past goaltender Jackson Whistle to make it 1-0.
Kieffer Bellows scored his first of two goals just 58 seconds into the second to make it 2-0 for the USA, then put the game on ice with his second of the game only 2:43 after his first.
His second goal came on the power play, with Schmidt drawing the second assist as Bellows fired a wrister past Whistle from the right circle.
Schmidt now has three points in four games at the tournament.
Next up for the Americans is a match-up with Sweden, one of the top teams in Pool B, on Saturday.
