WINNIPEG, July 1, 2023 - The Winnipeg Jets announced today they have agreed to terms with forward Jeffrey Viel on a one-year, one-way contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $775,000.
Viel, 26, played four games for the San Jose Sharks in 2022-23 and had two penalty minutes. The Rimouski, Que. native also featured in 60 games for the AHL's San Jose Barracuda and posted 31 points (15G, 16A) and 150 PIMs. Viel has played 49 career NHL games for the Sharks and has five points (3G, 2A) and 139 PIMs. He has also posted 93 points (45G, 48A) and 398 PIMs in 212 AHL games for the Barracuda.
Viel played his junior hockey in the QMJHL with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Sherbrooke Phoenix and recorded 196 points (115G, 81A) and 499 PIMs in 259 games. He also tallied 26 goals and 19 assists for 45 points with 54 PIMs in 36 playoff games. Viel won the 2018 QMJHL Championship with Acadie-Bathurst before posting 10 points (3G, 7A) and four PIMs in four games as the Titan won the 2018 Memorial Cup, with Viel making the tournament All-Star Team.
