Monday was an exciting day for Winnipeg Jets forward Pierre-Luc Dubois.
Shortly after the team landed in Montreal, the 24-year-old was the guest of honour at a press conference announcing the inauguration of the Pierre-Luc Dubois Foundation.
Dubois, a product of Ste. Agathe des Monts, QC, is taking over the foundation for Vincent Lecavalier - a four-time NHL All-Star with 1,212 games played.
"He had a foundation that helped kids that didn't necessarily have the money to play hockey, whether it be the equipment, the registration fee, finding ice, all that stuff," said Dubois.
Dubois' best friend's dad ran a fundraising golf tournament that benefitted that foundation, and Dubois would play in it with three friends.

As much as hitting the links was a great time, he never lost sight of why that tournament, and that foundation, were so important.
"That's always something I had in my mind, seeing what (Lecavalier) did for the region down there was something that really inspired me," said Dubois. "So when I got the opportunity, when he retired the foundation took a break, they didn't know necessarily what direction they were going to go. And I wanted to jump in and maybe be that next step where it became my foundation."

Over 20 years, the Vincent Lecavalier Foundation raised $1,000,000 in hockey equipment. The impact of that was evident to Dubois, who played his minor hockey in Rimouski and Midget AAA in Riviere-du-Loup.
Now, it's Dubois' turn.
"Vincent and the whole team was great, really nice and helpful," said Dubois, who officially launched his foundation in March 2020.
This pandemic prevented the foundation from really taking off, but Dubois is hopeful that with the return of the golf tournament this summer - which hasn't been held since 2019 - things will really take off, and kids all over Quebec can play the game Dubois has had close to his heart since he was a kid.
