KEEP THE CHANCES AGAINST DOWN
Winnipeg fired 47 shots at Henrik Lundqvist in New York last night, a franchise record for a season opener. However, the Jets allowed six goals - with one being an empty-netter. With Ville Heinola, Neal Pionk and Anthony Bitteto all making their Jet debuts, growing pains are expected.

LB'S TURN
Coming off another solid preseason in which he went 3-0 and allowed just three goals, Laurent Brossoit gets his first start of the 2019-20 season. All you have to do is watch the highlights of the third period and overtime from Winnipeg's final preseason game to see how Brossoit is on his game. The Port Alberni, B.C. product stopped 10 of 11 shots in the third and five more in overtime against the Minnesota Wild with the majority of those five shots coming from point blank range.
GREAT START FOR TOP LINE
Blake Wheeler had a team high two goals on nine shots on goal last night including three of the Jets 11 shots on the power play. His season high last season was 11 on December 14th during a 4-3 overtime win at Chicago. The Jets top line of Wheeler, Nikolaj Ehlers and Mark Scheifele had 21 of Winnipeg's 47 shots on the night. Ehlers tied a career high with three assists Thursday night in New York.
FACING AN OLD NEMESIS
After starring on the Nashville Predators blueline for three seasons, defenceman P.K. Subban was moved to the Devils during the summer. Subban consistently drew the ire of Jets fans in Winnipeg, booing him any time he touched the puck at Bell MTS Place. Subban who recorded two goals and four assists in 13 regular season meetings with the Jets the last three seasons will be featured on New Jersey's top defence pairing with Andy Greene. You know he will try and get under the Jets skin from the time the puck drops until the final buzzer.
NUMBER TWO, NOW NUMBER ONE
Last night the Jets faced the number two selection from the 2019 NHL Draft Kaapo Kaako from the New York Rangers and held him to just three shots on goal and kept Kaako off the scoresheet. Tonight the first overall selection, Jack Hughes will make his NHL debut against Winnipeg. The 18-year-old from Orlando, Florida holds the USA Hockey National Development Program records for career points (154) and goals (228). He represented the U.S. four times in international competition, most recently at the IIHF world championships.
