After an exciting day off the ice, the Winnipeg Jets took care of business on the ice with a 3-0 win over the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena. The Jets dominated the third period with goals from Mark Scheifele, Adam Lowry and Nikolaj Ehlers. Laurent Brossoit made 17 saves for his fourth career shutout and first since February 8, 2022. Winnipeg is now 40-17-5 and will sit in second spot in the Central Division with Colorado and Dallas both winning on Friday night. The Jets will face Vancouver on Saturday night at Rogers Arena.

TIGHT CHECKING AFFAIR

The game tonight looked like a playoff game with a good pace and two teams that were committed to defending first. In fact, the two combined for just eight high danger scoring chances per Natural Stat Trick at five on five after 40 minutes. Winnipeg gave up too many odd man rushes to Seattle on Tuesday back in the Manitoba capital but that was not the case in Seattle on Friday night. The Jets adjusted and were much better at not allowing the Kraken to get chances off the rush.

“We weren't very good last game, giving up so many odd man rushes. We did a much better job of protecting the middle of the ice,” said Rick Bowness.

“Our forwards did a great job of backtracking for the most part and putting pressure on them and our D were able to stand up.”

BIG THIRD PERIOD

On Tuesday night, Mark Scheifele joined Blake Wheeler as the only two players in franchise history to reach 700 career points, but it came in a losing cause. His 701st point broke a scoreless game in the third period, Scheifele took a pass from Vladislav Namestnikov and slid a shot under Joey Daccord to make it 1-0 at 7:15. After a huge penalty kill, Adam Lowry would jump on a loose puck and get his second goal in as many games for the 2-0 marker at 11:28. Nikolaj Ehlers added an empty net goal to round out the scoring at 19:10.

MORRISSEY DOES IT AGAIN

After being held without an assist on Tuesday for just the second time in the previous nine games. The Jets defenceman went back to work Friday night making an outstanding play to hold the line and get the puck over to Vladislav Namestnikov who then got it to Scheifele for the game winning goal. Morrissey now has 25 points (5G, 20A) in 31 road games this season.
