WINNIPEG – Andre Burakovsky scored a power play goal with 2:39 remaining as the Seattle Kraken beat the Winnipeg Jets 4-3 at Canada Life Centre Tuesday night. Nino Niederreiter gave the Jets a 3-2 lead 1:17 into the third period but Tomas Tatar answered 25 seconds later to tie the game. The Jets also gave up a shorthanded goal in their first ever loss to Seattle on home ice. Connor Hellebuyck made 29 saves in the loss for Winnipeg who will face the Kraken Friday in Seattle.

SCHEIFELE JOINS WHEELER IN 700 CLUB

With the Jets trailing 1-0 in the second period, Mark Scheifele sent a perfect pass cross ice to Kyle Connor and the team’s leading goal scorer did the rest. Scheifele (209 G, 410A) joined Blake Wheeler as the only two players in franchise history to have 700 career points. Connor’s goal also marked the fourth straight game that he’s scored on home ice.

“You know, very blessed to play with some really good players over the years and obviously just hoping hope and pray for more,” said Scheifele.

“But obviously it's a very humbling, humbling thing and obviously excited and proud and lots more work to do.”

FRUSTRATING LOSS

The last five games between the Jets and Kraken have been decided by one goal. The fact that Winnipeg took their first lead of the night with Nino Niederreiter’s goal to start the third period but gave up the game tying goal soon after hurt their momentum. Add to the team’s frustrations was the fact they gave up a shorthanded goal and the late power play goal to Andre Burakovsky to lose the special teams battle.

THE SAVE

To the Jets credit they kept coming at the Kraken in the game’s final minutes and with Connor Hellebuyck on the bench and Winnipeg on the power play, Neal Pionk had an excellent opportunity to tie the game but Kraken netminder Joey Daccord lunged over with his blocker and made the save of the night.

“We had a great opportunity with the goalie out and the guy makes an incredible save,” said Rick Bowness.

“Give him credit on that big save and coming up big on big moments."
