- Hispanic Heritage Month is observed from September 15 to October 15 to celebrate the culture and contributions of over 60 million Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.
- This observance starts on September 15 to recognize the Independence Day of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Additionally, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and 18.

Did you know? Hispanics and Latinos make up the largest ethnic group in Los Angeles County!
There are longstanding debates surrounding the terms “Hispanic” and “Latino” and their uses. Hispanic typically refers to people whose ancestors come from Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America, and Latino refers to people whose ancestors are any of the 22 countries and territories in Latin America.
