The Kings won their Western Conference leading 12th game against the Eastern Conference last night when they defeated the New York Rangers 3-1 at Crypto.com Arena. The Kings improved their record to 12-4-1 against the East in impressive fashion, controlling both the puck possession and the shots in goal categories.
After a scoreless first period, Phillip Danault opened the scoring for the second straight game with rebound put away just 55 seconds into the second period, stemming from a Trevor Moore shot. Minutes later, Blake Lizotte double the lead as the Minnesota native was rewarded going hard to the net, stuffing in his fourth goal of the year. Assists in the Lizotte goal were rewarded to Viktor Arvidsson and Trevor Moore.
The Kings surrendered a third period goal at the 11:27 mark to bring the game within one goal, but that was all the Rangers would get offensively as Cal Petersen continued his hot return to the blue paint, stopping 22 of 23 shots and improving his record 7-5-1 on the season.
Adrian Kempe sealed the victory with an empty net tally in the last minute of the game to give the Kings the late two-goal lead. The empty net goal was the 16th time the Swedish winger has found the back of the net, tying a career high in goals.
