The Kings closed out a four-game home stand on Saturday night when the welcomed in one of the Eastern Conference's best, the 13-6-5 Carolina Hurricanes Entering the night, the Hurricanes (3-0-1) and Kings (2-0-2) had each put together four-game point streaks with a +3 goal differential.
The Hurricanes jumped on the Kings early and netted the first goal just 4:01 into the game as Brady Skjei beat Jonathan Quick in tight. The Hurricane then doubled the lead before period's end when Martin Necas took advantage of a two-man advantage in the dying seconds of the first.
A second period Hurricanes goal would push the deficit to three before the Kings found the back of the net for the first time midway into the third period. Scoring for the Kings was Arthur Kaliyev who again converted on the power play, scoring his seventh power-play goal of the season. Another Hurricanes goal would push the lead back to three, but the Kings responded again when Samuel Fagemo etched his name into the history books, scoring his first career NHL goal in the final minutes of the game.
Jonathan Quick made his fifth consecutive start for the Kings and stopped 27 shots.
