Kings fans witnessed a wild one last night. In what ended in a 6-3 victory, the Kings and Oilers played a game that had everything.
It took 9:21 for the events to begin as Kevin Fiala kickstarted the scoring with a power-play goal. One-timing home a shot from Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar, Fiala was just getting started. Notably, Kopitar's assist marked his 1,100th career point, a milestone only four other active NHLers have accomplished (Alex Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Patrick Kane, Evgeni Malkin). Fiala would strike again on the power play for his 15th goal of the season at the 11:11 mark, netting his second goal of the first period with a beautiful move in tight on Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner.
After surrendering a goal as a Kings penalty expired late in the first period, the Kings clicked again on the power play. This time coming from the stick of Adrian Kempe, Fiala sprung the Swedish forward for a breakaway and he did not miss. Just under eight minutes later, Kempe struck again on the power play. Like Fiala's first goal, Kempe unloaded on a one-timer to beat the sprawling Jack Campbell who came in reliefg of Skinner, giving Kempe his team-leading 17th goal of the season. Fiala again assisted on Kempe goal, making it Fiala's fourth career four-point game.
Up 4-2 entering the game's final 20 minutes, the Kings separated themselves as Alex Iafallo also scored on a lone break. The Kings and Oilers would trade goals the rest of the way, giving the Kings two more important points against a division opponent.
Pheonix Copley started in net for the Kings and stopped 28-of-31 shots.
