2022-23 LA Kings Season: By the Numbers

104 - Points (47-25-10)

The 2022-23 Kings notched a 47-25-20 regular season record, good for 104 points. The Kings 104 points ranks second in franchise history, trailing only the 105-point 1974-75 season. With the 104-point season, it marks the first time since the 2015-16 season (102 points) that the Kings reached the century mark in points and is the sixth time in franchise history that the Kings have hit triple digits in an 82 game season. The Kings also won 26 games at home and earned 56 of the 104 points points on home ice. In total, the Kings won 47 games this season, the second most in franchise history (2015-16, 48).

25.3% - Power Play Percentage

The Kings made huge gains in the power play department, ranking 4th in the NHL during the regular season (25.3%). Jumping 23 spots from last year's rank of 27th (16.1%), the Kings made the biggest rise in league. In total, the Kings scored 68 power play goals. Adrian Kempe led the team with 11 tallies on the man advantage, followed by Viktor Arvidsson's 10 tallies. Drew Doughty led the Kings with 27 power play helpers.

274 - Goals Scored

The Kings netted 274 goals this season, while only giving up 254 goals. The team's uptick in goals is the franchise's most in 29 seasons since the 1993-1994 Kings (294 goals). Led by Adrian Kempe's 41 goals, the Kings had 11 players to score double digit goals {Adrian Kempe (41), Anze Kopitar (28), Viktor Arvidsson (36), Gabriel Vilardi (23), Kevin Fiala (23), Phillip Danault (18), Alex Iafallo (14), Arthur Kaliyev (13), Carl Grundstrom (12), Blake Lizotte (11), Trevor Moore (10)}, the most since the 2009-10 season.

41 - Adrian Kempe Goals

Kempe reached the 40-goal mark for the first time in his career this season. In doing so, Kempe became the first King to reach the 40-goal club since Luc Robitaille scored 44 goals in the 1993-94 season. Kempe's continued growth as a player saw him set a career high in goals, assists and points (41-26=67).

34 - Players

The Kings had 34 different players suit up during the 2022-23 season. 19 forwards, 11 defensemen and four goalies made up the 34 Kings, represented across nine different countries (Australia, Canada, Finland, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, USA, Uzbekistan).

16 - Anze Kopitar Points Leader

Kopitar has been in the NHL for 18 seasons. For 16 of his 18 seasons, Kopitar has led the Kings in points. Outside of his rookie season in 2006-07 and the 2016-17 season, Kopitar has been the leading scorer for the Kings. This season, Kopitar notched a team-leading 74 points (28-46=74) in 82 games, his most since the 2017-2018 campaign.

53.3% - Team Face-off Percentage

The Kings ranked third in the NHL this season in team face-off percentage, winning 53.3% of their draws. Trailing only the league-leading Dallas Stars (54.8%) and the Boston Bruins (54.5%), the Kings at 53.3% set a franchise record. Among eligible centers, the Kings had four skaters that had a face-off win percentage north of 50%; Anze Kopitar (55.9%), Rasmus Kupari (54.6%), Phillip Danault (54.4%) and Blake Lizotte (51.2). It was the fifth consecutive season that Kopitar averaged at least 55.0%, the eighth consecutive season that Danault was above 50.0%, the fourth consecutive season Lizotte was above 50.0%, while Kupari set a center high in the face-off circle.

72 - Kevin Fiala Points

The prized addition in the 2022 offseason was everything the Kings could've hoped when he put on a black, silver and white jersey this season. After acquiring Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild for a 2022 first round draft pick and defenseman Brock Faber, Fiala put together a master class of of playmaking all year. Fiala's addition to the Kings lineup came in the form of 23 goals, 49 assists and 72 points across 69 games in the regular season. Despite missing 13 games at the end of the regular season, Fiala led the Kings in assists and ranked second on the team in points (Kopitar, 74 points). With a lingering lower body injury, Fiala missed the first three games of the playoffs, but managed to rank fourth on the team in scoring with six points (1-5=6) in just three games. Fiala's 2.00 points per game in the playoffs ranked first on the team.

12 - Team Point Streak

The Kings set a franchise record this season with a 12-game point streak between February 28th - March 26th. Going 10-0-2 during that span, the Kings outscored their opponents 53-30. Averaging 4.4 GF/GP, the Kings held their opponents to two goals or less in nine of the 12 games. During the point streak, Joonas Korpisalo led the way in net, going 4-0-1 with a 1.77 GAA and .929 SV%.

20 - Pheonix Copley Quickest To 20 Wins

After a 9-8 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken on home ice on November 29th, Rob Blake made the move to call up Pheonix Copley from the Ontario Reign. It was from that point on that Copley calmly took over the Kings net in the regular season and in doing so, set a franchise record. Copley became the quickest goalie in LA Kings history to get to 20 wins, doing it in just 29 appearances, breaking the record previously held by Jonathan Quick (30). In route to the fastest 20 wins in Kings history, Copley went 20-4-2.

1,000 - Games Played

Alex Edler joined the coveted 1,000 career NHL games played club this season. On December 31st, 2022, Edler played his 1,000th game against the Philadelphia Flyers in Los Angeles with his family in attendance. The 36-year-old Edler became the 16th Swedish-born player and just the sixth defenseman to accomplish the milestone. Edler, who has now played 1,030 career games joined Anze Kopitar (1,292) and Drew Doughty (1,095) in the Kings locker room as the only three current players to pass the century mark in games.

Edler was honored the following home game on January 3rd, 2023 before puck drop against the Dallas Stars. Edler's wife, Amanda, and their two daughters, Emmy Rose and River, joined him on the ice for the ceremony, during which general manager Rob Blake presented him with a commemorative silver stick. Edler's Los Angeles teammates presented him gifts including a painting depicting him winning a silver medal with Sweden in the 2014 Olympics, his debut for Vancouver in 2006, and his 500th and 1000th career games.

Edler has played 925 games with the Vancouver Canucks and 105 games with the Kings.
