Leading the series 3-2, the Kings entered Crypto.com Arena on Thursday night with a chance to close out the Edmonton Oilers season. Unfortunately, it was not to be. The tightly contested battle saw a Kings team fight back from an early deficit and give themselves a chance to win the game late in the third.
Connor McDavid opened the game's scoring just 1:40 into the first period with a wrap-around goal, beating Jonathan Quick five hole. Continuing the Oilers trend of scoring early in a period was Evander Kane, who deflected in a Brett Kulak point shot 1:50 into the second period.
Trailing by two, the Kings responded on the power play when Sean Durzi one-timed home a shot from the point with 6:01 remaining in the second period. The goal was Durzi's first career playoff tally. The comeback Kings then tied the game 29 seconds into the third period when Carl Grundstrom rifled home a wrist shot beating Mike Smith blocker-side. Grundstrom's goal was his third of the playoffs, tying the team lead with Phillip Danault.
The Oilers would take back the lead when they capitalized on a Kings defensive breakdown, leading to a Tyson Barrie goal in the slot with 5:10 remaining in the game. Kane added an empty net goal for his second of the game and seventh of the series.
Jonathan Quick stopped 33 of 36 Oilers shots faced.
Game 7 is set for Saturday at 7:00 pm on Bally Sports SoCal and ESPN.
