In a hard fought battle, the Kings came up on the losing end of a tightly contested 2-0 Oilers victory in Game 7. With the loss, the Kings were eliminated from the 2022 playoffs.
The game began with an evenly matched opening period but quickly shifted in the Oilers favor when the second period began. With the help of the long change, the Oilers applied heavy pressure and pinned the Kings in their own zone for much of the 20 minutes. Eventually the Oilers broke through when Connor McDavid set up Cody Ceci for the ice-breaking goal 13:15 into the period. With the otherworldly performance of Jonathan Quick, the Kings held the Oilers to just one goal on 24 shots in the second period.
The Kings were able to right the ship in the third and apply pressure on the Oilers, but could not find the back of the net. After being outshot 24-11 in the second period, the Kings outshot the Oilers 11-7 in the third period. Connor McDavid would strike late in the third period, scoring with 3:53 to go in the game.
Jonathan Quick stopped 39 of 41 shots.
The loss also closes the book on the career of one of the Kings all-time great's Dustin Brown. Brown, who announced his retirement following the conclusion of the 2021-22 season steps away from the ice as the Kings all-time leader in seasons played (18) and games played (1,296).
