Each week, Discover will feature a different youth coach as part of its Exceptional Community Coaches series. In continued support of local hockey communities, Discover is making a $2,000 donation to each of the Learn to Play programs this season. This week, a look at Buffalo Sabres representative Amy Rogers of the Buffalo Sabres Learn to Play program.

Name of coach: Amy Rogers
Name of program: East Aurora Beast, Aurora Ice Youth Hockey
About the coach: Amy Rogers is the Buffalo Sabres Learn To Play manager at the Classic Rink in East Aurora, New York. She has volunteered as an 8U coach and vice president of East Aurora Beast, Aurora Ice Youth Hockey Program. Amy also volunteers for New York State Amateur Hockey Association (NYSAHA) as the alternate president and American Development Model (ADM) coordinator of the West Section. Rogers was recognized at USA Hockey's Annual Congress this past summer where she received the USA Hockey New Leader Award for her contributions to NYSAHA and her dedication to amateur ice hockey in the United States.
About the program: East Aurora Beast, Aurora Ice Youth Hockey is entering its fourth season as a partner of the Buffalo Sabres Learn To Play (LTP) Program. East Aurora has become one of the most sought-after locations for the Buffalo Sabres LTP in the area. As you may know, the Classic Rink (https://auroraicehockey.sportngin.com/our-rink) in East Aurora is an outdoor rink which pays homage to the original NHL Winter Classic held in 2008 in nearby Orchard Park, NY. Rogers has been instrumental in growing the East Aurora 8U program through LTP. Approximately 40 percent of all new players registering with East Aurora Beast Hockey have participated in the East Aurora LTP Program. Similarly, 30 percent of all players in the East Aurora LTP Program are girls. The growth of girls players in East Aurora created the opportunity for the association to add 14U girls hockey for the first time this season. Additional girls teams are planned as LTP players age into 8U and above play.
Donation meaning: This donation will help to strengthen our Continue To Play program which not only keeps players playing the sport of hockey but also opens new doors to players who are 10-12 years old who would not be eligible for Learn To Play but still are interested in the sport of hockey.
